1984 FA Cup Final Everton v Watford It was a day of enduring images - Elton John's tears before the game, Andy Gray's controversial goal during it, and John Bailey's over-sized spectacles afterwards! But more importantly for all Evertonians it was the day that Everton's 14-year search for silverware finally ended.
The Hornets had their moments, but The Toffees were never going to be denied and the 'Tartan Terrors', Graeme Sharp and Andy Gray, wrote their names into Everton folklore with a goal each to bring the Cup back to Goodison for the first time since 1966.
The Toffees went on to even greater achievements after winning the FA Cup in 1984, but don't they say the first time is the sweetest?
May 19th 1984 was the day that Everton Football Club announced to the football world: "We are back!"
