1974 FA Cup Final Liverpool v Newcastle As Bill Shankly's rebuilt side of the 1970's flourished in the 1972-73 Season, the 1973-74 campaign didn't quite live up to expectation, and the FA Cup became the only realistic chance of achieving silverware. But facing Newcastle, they played a team that had never lost a Wembley final, and the stage was set for a keenly-awaited showdown.
After a first half of few chances, Liverpool really turned on the style in the second half with a master-class display of total football. Alec Lindsay became the scorer of perhaps the best FA Cup goal that never was, before Kevin Keegan opened the scoring, Steve Heighway added number two and then Kevin Keegan scored his second of the game after a move of flowing football with only minutes remaining.
This would be the last trophy that Liverpool would achieve under Shankly, as weeks later he would stun the world of football by announcing his retirement. So relive this historic match once again with bonus post-match interviews from the Wembley tunnel.
